The 2009 Inaugural weekend saw massive celebrations in Washington, DC
and worldwide. The legendary Afrika Bambaataa, who helped launch the
hip-hop generation with hits like “Planet Rock” and “Searching for the
Perfect Beat” was in town to celebrate the historic moment. While
Barack Obama was being sworn in as President, the Fort Knox Five teamed
up with electro-funk innovator Afrika Bambaataa and Mustafa Akbar to
create the funk anthem “Shift.”

We employed some of our current favorite producers to add their own
personal twist to “Shift”. First up is no stranger to the Fort Knox
Recordings camp, Deekline. Deekline & Dustin Hulton teamed up to
create a breakbeat bass monster only those two are capable of producing.
DJ Dan is a longtime collaborator, friend and mentor to the Fort Knox
Five. Together in the studio DJ Dan & Mike Balance turn in an acid
house mix, full of cowbells and electro tweaks, sure to rock the
dancefloor. German house sensation Malente flips “Shift” into a stomping
funky house mix full of twisted horns, and massive breakdowns. New York
City’s own Sub Swara add their signature bass wobble, and drop a
serious dubstep remix. The final two remixes were both unique and done
by new friends to Fort Knox, the Baymont Bross of Spain. The first is a
slamming modern electro-funk version, with the second, being a poppy
electro 4/4 banger. All remixes are sure to find their ways into the DJ
crate.

SHIFT MUSIC VIDEO

Starring Afrika Bambaataa, Mustafa Akbar, & Fort Knox Five, the
groundbreaking music video for Shift is the result of months of work by
directors Stu Mackay-Smith and DJ Ball. Combining live action filmed
in HD Oakley Red with sharp animation, the production team called in
world famous action sports cinematographer Christian Begin to capture
Vancouver’s Now or Never and Hybrid Movement breakdance crews.
Additional filming by Adam Mackay-Smith, Colin Mcgreal & Robin Bell.
With Go Go dancers Ace Mackay-Smith aka the Foxy Moron, Nessa V, &
Jina Anika. Prepare to be blown away by an audio-visual experience of
interstellar funk and esoteric imagery. The video even features an
exclusive John Langdon created Fort Knox Five ambigram.
